Italian music is a range of opera and instrumental classical music, which is very popular and forms Italy’s identity, not only among the people but as well as the country itself.  Music in Italy has been a tradition expressing the culture and identifying the ethnic identity, which has an important impact on the society and politics.  In the late 16th century, the development of opera contained musical scales, harmony, notation, and theatre.  Italy’s identity is formed by the use of instrumental and vocal classical music.  This also expands the ideas of experimental art music and international fusions to symphonic music and opera.  The music in Italy has always been a major part of their culture.  Some imported genres like jazz, rock and hip hop have became a part of Italian’s music industry, but Italian folk music will always be important to the country’s music heritage along with the diverse styles of instruments and dances.

Italy is known for its love for opera music.  Opera music was created in the 17th century by an Italian music composer named Claudio Monteverdi.  Once opera music came alive in Italy, it has spread all over the world.  Italy has held the best opera singers of all time and is the home for performing opera music in places such as, Milan, Venice, Naples and Verona.  These places were the best opera houses where they would perform.

Classical music has also been a major part of Italy’s culture.  One of the major composers of classical music named Antonio Vivaldi, has contributed his creativity to making classical music a world wide spread.  Antonio created one of his most famous piece of classical music which is the four seasons.  This famous piece of classical music is still popular today throughout the world.  Soon after Antonio created his music, another form of classical music genre of Baroque was developed.  Classical music has expanded since the 17th century and it is a had been highly known for it’s amazing melodies.

Rock music has also became popular in Italy.  Even though rock music has had a rough time with the English speaking countries, there are several rock bands that perform their music to their fans in Italy.  Some of the 1980s rock bands including singers and songwriters are Gianna Nannini, Zucchero and Vasco Rossi.  There has also been a huge impact with punk rock music in Italy which has lasted since the 1970s and it seems to be increasing rapidly today in Italy.

Rap music has became popular today in Italy.  Rap music has developed by observance of the USA rap music.  It has had a major impact on Italians based on fashion and the lifestyles that reflect on the rap musicians in America.  The rap music that is composed in Italy contains similar beats like the beats in America’s rap music, but Italian rap artists focus their lyrics on social critiques and spoken in Italian.
